Feeding the Heroes is a program that actually came out of desperation to keep our restaurant’s doors open during the pandemic. Our Scottsdale location has temporarily closed its doors and we were giving our Mesa location one last weekend to see if we could make Curbside and To-Go orders work.
Beth Hommel at The PLM Agency did not want this to happen. She drove out to the restaurant and dropped off her credit card. She said I’ve been in contact with the Mesa Fire Department and Mesa 911 Dispatch Operators. They will call in for a meal and I want to pay for it. This was how it started. That weekend we fed over 100 front line workers thanks to Beth’s Pay it Forward mindset.
Two good friends who own small businesses said they would like to do something for the hospital workers. Can you set that up? Ray said, “no problem”. We reached out to Banner Baywood Heart Hospital, Banner Gateway Medical Center and Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. Between R.T.O’Sullivans, Stafford Crane Group and Image Roofing, we fed 300 hospital staff. The staff were so grateful for a meal and the fact that someone thought of them. What a great feeling!
R.T. O’Sullivans decided that this was only the beginning. As long as a business or individual was willing to sponsor a lunch for a front line worker, we would make it happen! Glenn Edwards of CSG West Contracting said, “I’m in” when he heard what we were doing. Maggie and Mark Wirth along with their small businesses Orchard RV Resort and Fairgrounds RV said, “we want to help too”. Glen Edwards has reached out to other small businesses that he knows and shortly after Judith Van Rossum (Van Rossum and Associates) jumped on board. XTC Motor Sports then joined in and sponsored a lunch for the Gilbert Police Department.
A number of former R.T. O’Sullivans employees and friends – Cara O’Dowd-Rice, Cara Rauch, John Wilmarth, Heather Ferguson, Kay Samaniego, Laura McKinley, Brea O’Connell, Natalie Fisher and Danielle McKinley-Huskins – all got together to send Kelsey Elliot at Chandler Regional Hospital a ‘Thank You’ lunch for her department.
Over the last couple of weeks we have delivered meals to hospital workers at Chandler Regional Medical Center, Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, Banner Baywood Heart Hospital, Banner Gateway Medical Center, Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Cardon Children’s Medical Center. We have received many heart-felt thank you notes from hundreds of grateful workers.
R.T. O’Sullivans will keep Feeding the Heroes as long as sponsors want to Pay It Forward. If you would like to sponsor a lunch of 100 individually wrapped meals to be delivered to any hospital or front line worker of your choice, please contact us. We will contact the facility, whether it is a hospital, fire house or police station. We will arrange and deliver the meals. Each individually wrapped meal will include your company name and logo along with a big Thank You from R.T. O’Sullivans.
This sponsorship allows us to keep our doors open and the lights on while still helping the community. We will all get through this together! Call us at 480-396-9933 or email us from our website at www.rtosullivans.com
